About

Professor Joel is the head instructor at Embrace Martial Arts. He started judo in 1981, at four years old, trained it until he was 16 and earned his black belt, then moved on to Muay Thai.

He is a third degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in the Carlson Gracie lineage and has coached since 1999. In 2007 he moved to the United States to coach at American Top Team, and he has coached amateur and professional athletes at events from Brazil to China.

What he loves about teaching is being on the mats, sharing what he knows and still learning. New students can expect two things in his class: learn and have fun.

Professor Joel teaches kids and adults, and still trains every day on a knee replacement. Away from the gym, he likes old trucks.
